Last night at Space Connect, we had the privilege of hosting a meaningful and high-impact Fireside Chat with City Commissioner Christy Fox, moderated by Leroy Kelson IV.
Beyond sharing her personal journey and professional background in marketing and public relations, Commissioner Fox emphasized something that deeply resonated with our community: “Marketing is about empathy. Everything that we are doing is for the people, so if we are not communicating to find out what people want, we are missing the point.”
She acknowledged that too often information reaches the public after decisions have already been made. “Sometimes we put out press releases after we’ve already voted. That’s not when people want to know: it’s beforehand, so they can participate. We are improving, but there’s more work to do.”
That invitation to participate became a central theme of the evening. Commissioner Fox encouraged business owners and community members to show up (at City Hall, in public meetings, and through organized groups) reminding everyone that engagement matters.
She also highlighted the power of collective voices, recognizing the role of spaces like Space Connect:
“Sometimes we hear similar concerns, but one person at a time. It’s different when 20, 50, 100 people come with the same issue, there’s no way we’re not going to listen. When a group experiencing something similar communicates in one voice, the message is much more effective.”
That is precisely why Space Connect exists. Beyond mentoring programs and strategic connections, we exist to unite the SBE community of Palm Beach County to transform individual challenges into a shared voice that cannot be overlooked.
The conversation also touched on her priorities for District 3, including mobility and transportation, ensuring that residents can move efficiently into and within West Palm Beach, a key factor for workforce access and economic growth.
The evening was highly interactive. Members and attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, present concerns, and engage directly with Commissioner Fox. In return, she reaffirmed her openness and encouraged deeper civic involvement.
These conversations may feel like small steps. But in reality, we are actively closing the gap between the voice of the business community and the ears of local leadership, and vice versa. Because true progress requires a two-way road.
If you’re looking to be more than just informed, if you want to be part of the conversation, part of the collective voice, and part of the action, this is what membership at Space Connect is about.
Membership at Space Connect is more than access to events. It’s about building relationships that move ideas forward and positioning your business in the rooms where conversations happen.
